Reclaiming Yourself After Heartbreak: How I Healed and Created Too Many Pricks
Reclaiming Yourself After Heartbreak: How I Healed and Created Too Many Pricks
Heartbreak Sucks, and Sometimes, So Do People
Heartbreak is like being stabbed by a thousand pricks at once. You wake up alone, feel like you’ve lost yourself, and wonder how the hell you’re supposed to move forward. I know that feeling all too well. After my seven-year relationship ended, I didn’t just lose a person—I lost me. My entire sense of self was tied to someone else, and when they were gone, I had no clue what to do.
But here’s the thing: there are too many pricks in this world. And that’s where my journey to healing began—not with forgiveness, but with the realization that while I couldn’t stop people from being pricks, I could heal from the wounds they left behind. That realization sparked the creation of Too Many Pricks—a platform to help others like me navigate their way out of emotional pain and reclaim their sense of self.
Whatever your heartbreak looks like—whether it's betrayal, rejection, or loss—know that your pain is real, and your healing journey is just as valid.
Who Am I, and Why Did I Create Too Many Pricks?
I’m Jess, the founder of Too Many Pricks. I’ve got a Bachelor’s in Science and a Master’s in Applied Ecology, and I’m the type of person who needs to understand why things work. When my relationship crumbled, I knew I had to figure out how to heal—not just emotionally but scientifically. I needed more than comforting words; I needed proof. That’s when I dove into research and discovered neuroplasticity—the brain’s ability to rewire itself.
This discovery was my turning point. I realized that I could rebuild myself from the ground up by creating new habits that would rewire my mind. Healing wasn’t just about moving on; it was about actively reshaping the way I thought and felt. That’s where the idea for Too Many Pricks and the Post Break-Up Guide came from—the belief that we can heal, not by erasing the past, but by reprogramming our minds to embrace a better future.
A Moment of Clarity: Too Many Pricks
The name Too Many Pricks wasn’t something I planned—it was a realization that hit me during a conversation with a close friend. After pouring out the details of the affair and everything that had unraveled in my life, she said, “There are just too many pricks in this world.” That one sentence hit me hard because it wasn’t me—it was him. I hadn’t done anything wrong, and her words lifted a weight off my shoulders.
It was a powerful moment of clarity. I realized that life is full of pricks—people who hurt others for their own gain—but we don’t have to be defined by them. This was the beginning of Too Many Pricks, a space to acknowledge the anger and hurt but use it as fuel for healing and growth.
The First Steps to Healing: Rewiring My Mind
At the beginning of my healing journey, I felt completely lost. I had no routines, no interests, nothing that was just for me. One morning, I decided to try something small. The night before, I prepped a glass of water with cucumber, lemon, and mint—my “boujie spa water.” When I woke up the next morning, it wasn’t sadness that greeted me—it was excitement to start my day for myself.
That glass of water wasn’t just about hydration. It was a declaration that I mattered, that I could care for myself. From there, I started incorporating other small, intentional acts like stretching and journaling. These simple routines were how I began to rewire my mind. Through the lens of neuroplasticity, I understood that by creating new habits, I could literally reshape how my brain responded to stress and emotional pain. And these habits became the foundation of the Post Break-Up Guide.
From Personal Struggle to Too Many Pricks
As I started rebuilding my life, I realized how many people are stuck in the same place I was—unsure of where to start or how to heal. The more I reflected on my own journey, the more I knew I had to create something to guide others through the same process. That’s why I developed the Post Break-Up Guide. It’s not just a collection of random tips—it’s a roadmap grounded in my own experience, designed to help others heal faster and with more clarity than I had in those early days.
The guide is quick, no-fluff, and straightforward. It’s filled with practical, actionable steps, backed by research, that helped me heal. And because it’s a digital download, it can be updated with new insights and techniques as I continue my own journey.
